How to be more social on social media is something we talk to our clients about all of the time. We're always going on about remembering to #BeSocial, when out there on the socials.
In this blog, I thought I’d take the time to explain exactly what #BeSocial actually means to you as a business or brand and I’m going to break it down into three sections.
And then a cheeky summary at the end..
~
We’re constantly surprised by businesses on social media, who post out content across their platforms and seemingly don’t reply to any of the comments!
Let me write that in a different way… If your business was a shop or had a physical premises and someone walked in through the door, would you ignore them or would you say ‘Hi’ and chat to them?
We also find a lot of businesses saying, social media doesn’t work for us and I don’t know why I post to it! We then have a look and find that they’re not even engaging with anyone who actually leaves a comment on their posts!
So, section 1 breaks down to this advice..
When you post to social media reply to every single comment.
What about when you’ve not posted on social media and you have no comments to reply to or no conversation to keep engaging with?!
This one is also simple and a natural extension of point 1 above..
Essentially, get that conversation started… You can do some or all of the following..
In a previous blog post, we shared what we spent on marketing throughout 2020 and what we did do for our marketing and what actually worked for us. Yes, every business is different. However It’s well worth a read if you’re trying to work out your own marketing plan and you're not quite sure where to focus your efforts.
It does also beg the question, “How do you actually market your business?”. It’s a crazy question when you think about it. It’s so very open ended and has a gazillion ways to answer it that could be different for every single person and business. Most experts would also give you different thoughts, ideas and feedback as there are so many ways to actually market your business.
We have a very simple take on this. Whilst you may be wondering on the bigger question of how to market your business, today there are some very simple and easy things you can do right now to help grow your business and brand online.
Yes, that's right, hopefully you’ve guessed it? Pick up your phone, get on the socials, chat, engage and #BeSocial to ultimately grow online and get people noticing who you are and what you do.
Go and follow some new and relevant accounts [ie not Kylie Jenner or the Rock this time] and say hi to them in the DM with a voice message, tell them what you loved about their account or even just send a DM to your most recent followers saying thank you for following and that you like their content.
Go and watch a video on YouTube. Subscribe to the account, leave a comment & a thumbs up and share that bad boy out on your platforms for others to enjoy.
Go and scroll through LinkedIn, leave some comments, connect with some new contacts and send a message saying hi.
Go on Pinterest, search and then save those pins to one of your boards.
Go on Twitter and and get involved in the conversation. What # is trending right now?
You may be wondering what social media is doing for you!
Well, you’re base minimum requirement when going on social media is this…
Like, comment, subscribe, follow, connect, comment and share… And, if you’re not doing anything right now, go and do exactly these things. If you read a post, the minimum you should do, rather than scrolling on is to 'like' it.
In a recent post by Trevor Young on social media lurkers. It’s suggested that 90% of people who are looking at your content don’t actually engage with it, they simply just ‘lurk’…
If you’re a lurker, then stop being one! Get out there, interact, engage and #besocial and see what happens. After all, surely you also want more people to engage with your content!
Thank you for reading today. I'd love to hear any thought you have on being more social on social media! If you do have any, then please do just drop me an email on [email protected] or find us on one of our social platforms and engage with us! 🙂
Have fun always.
PS… I’ve not even touched on ‘going live’ or creating content here.. 🙂 I'll save that for another day!
